For the last two decades author Terrance Mcclurge has defied a thirty year federal sentence by taking a negative situation, and like a true Alchemist, he turntables it into a positive & productive situation. He has also become a real example to those at-risk youth all across America’s ghettos similar to those in Chicago that he knows all too well. Born and bred in the streets of Chi-town, Mcclurge is the real deal and is now reaching back out from the penitentiary to the youth of his city and across America with his new book Message 2 The Streets. Which contains clear and relevant insight into many of the hidden realities of the so-called Game & Codes of the Streets that under normal circumstances has to be experienced before they’re REALIZED or UNDERSTOOD — but by then it’s too late. Gorilla Convict talked with Mcclurge. Here’s what he had to say.
AUTHOR/MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER MR.MCCLURGE CAN YOU OFFICIALLY
INTRODUCE YOURSELF? TELL THE PEOPLE WHO YOU ARE, WHERE YOU FROM,
AND WHAT LANDED YOU WITH A THIRTY-FIVE YEAR FEDERAL SENTENCE THAT
YOU’VE ALREADY SERVED “20 STRAIGHT YEARS” ON??
4sho — I’m Terrance McClurge, also known as Tea Mack — I’m from the
same Chicago westside area where Chairman Fred Hampton of the Black Panther
Party came from, The Village of MAYWOOD!
In 1998 me and four of my guys were charged with federal kidnapping & conspiracy
to kidnap. In November of 199 three of us, myself, Lil Cuz, and Baby Bruh took it
to trial — and Lil Cuz beat all charges, but me and Baby Bruh we blew it. Twenty years
into the future here we are.
Everything in between then and now — MY PAIN, MY SWEAT, MY BLOOD, MY TEARS,
MY MISTAKES, MY CREDIBILITY, MY PERSPECTIVE, MY NEW FAMILY, and MY NEW COMPANY
I’m putting it all into my projects!
I SALUTE YOUR STAND,CAN YOU BRIEFLY SHARE WITH THE PEOPLE HOW YOU
WERE ABLE TO REMAIN FOCUSED DESPITE HAVING SUCH A HORRENDOUS AMOUNT OF
TIME TO SERVE?
I immediately took full responsibility for my situation. Even though I was young and
wrestling with my human emotions from being (snitched on) by my family & friends.
I owned my situation from the very beginning — and I began my (spiritual journey) like an Alchemist
vowing to myself to find some kind of way to turn the negative situation I was facing into
a positive one!
YOU MENTIONED YOU’RE FROM THE CHICAGO’S WESTSIDE AREA OF MAYWOOD
ALSO HOME OF THE LATE CHAIRMAN FRED HAMPTON. DID ANY OF HIS REVOLUTIONARY
IDEAS AFFECT YOU IN ANY WAY, BEFORE OR DURING YOUR TIME INCARCERATED?
Absolutely — Before and after. the Chairman stayed across the street from Irving
Elementary School where I attended — and our teachers always stressed to us how important
he was. So his spirit was put into all of us there at a young age. But after I was sat down (in prison)
it became crystal clear to me how and why the Chairman was assasinated while he slept by Chicago
Police Officers, the same thang that’s going on today in Chicago and all across this nation.
Since then there has been an influx of gangs & drugs coupled with challenging economic times.
And all this has worked to quiet the social & political momentum that the Chairman sacrificed
his young life to help stimulate. Our condition in the ghetto now is almost identical to what the Chairman faced!
THAT WAS DEFINITELY ENLIGHTENING — NOW TELL US ABOUT THIS COMPANY
OF YOURS, MCCLURGE MEDIA?
Once I started writing and preparing my manuscripts to be purchased by the public
I knew if I wanted my material presented “My Way” then I was gonna have to do it myself.
So initially I launched THOROUGHBRED PUBLISHING that my first Urban Novel “Don’t Get It Twisted”
was released through, but now we got our suit & tie on — so Welcome to McClurge MEDIA.
Also we’ve created our own genre that we call “Urban Analytical”, and all my material that I
managed to complete over my twenty years of incarceration will be released with my sole intention
of helping to guide those at -risk youth that our country has forsakened and forgotten.
